INNOVATOR FOR GOOD

Local proptech entrepreneur Leon Ng named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40® for 2021

Vancouver, BC, November 18, 2021 - Local innovative business leader and technology entrepreneur Leon Ng has been honoured as one of only a handful of British Columbia recipients of the prestigious Canada’s Top 40 Under 40® for 2021.

Canada’s Top 40 Under 40® is an annual leadership award that recognizes exceptional achievement by 40 outstanding Canadians who are under the age of 40. The program is supported by several prominent organizations, all committed to Top 40’s success.

“It’s an absolute honour to be recognized amongst some of Canada’s most talented business and community leaders,” says Ng, founder and CEO of LNG Studios, which he founded in his 20s. “More than 15 years ago, I was at a crossroads, and made the decision to follow my dreams in pursuing a career in the filmmaking, creative, and artistry industry. LNG Studios is today the culmination of my career goals, and it’s only the beginning.”

Ng and his peers were selected from over a thousand nominees by a respected and independent Advisory Board, comprising 30 diverse leaders from across Canada. Four key criteria were assessed to select the recipients: Vision & Innovation, Leadership, Impact & Influence, and Social Responsibility.

Ng was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in his teens. He experienced anti-Asian racism growing up and faced a lot of adversity. In 2009, he founded LNG Studios, which is now a pioneering gamechanger in the proptech industry. The company has since sparked the creation of a vertically integrated synergetic group of companies supporting the technology, real estate visualization, and creative media ecosystem, including emerging technologies such as VR and AR.

Most recently, Ng has been spearheading projects to use technology to innovate for good in the non-profit sector. At the start of the pandemic, he redirected LNG Studio’s 3D printers to produce thousands of face shields for frontline workers. As a co-chair of the Future Leaders of St. Paul’s Foundation, he founded the inaugural Pixel Moments campaign, a micro-donation-powered photo-mosaic mural and augmented reality activation which raised close to $300,000 for mental health programs.

“We are continually looking to help non-profits activate technology,” adds Ng. “We’re currently working on an exciting upcoming project with Telus that combines LNG Studio’s passion for XR technology and the recognition and analysis of Indigenous history in Canada. We will be working with the Museum of Human Rights in Winnipeg to provide digital learning experiences.”

Ng sits on several boards, including the SUCCESS Foundation, and the Heart & Stroke Foundation (BC & Yukon). He is a strong supporter of minority representation in creative media and sits on the board for the Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

Founded in 1995 by Caldwell, Top 40 has recognized almost 1,000 outstanding Canadians and is the country’s most coveted award for young business and community leaders. Recipients have a remarkable track record of continuing achievement; Top 40 alumni now include hundreds of nationally and internationally prominent CEOs, executives, and entrepreneurs in the private, public, and social economy sectors.
